Closet Swap with Raise.com|Kate Middleton Inspired|

Regular readers of my blog will know I am minorly infatuated with Kate Middleton’s style. No matter what Kate wears she looks fabulous as her style is always simple, elegant and timeless. Everything you’d expect from the future Queen of England. When Raise.com contacted me and asked me to participate in their online closet swap*, transitioning from Spring to Summer fashion, I looked to Kate for inspiration. Raise.com is a new online platform where you can buy gift vouchers at a discounted price and sell your unused or unwanted gift cards. Raise.com is not available worldwide but I’m sure they’ll be expanding in the near future.

Sadly, the Irish summer weather is notoriously random and sunny days are sporadic. This drastically affects my fashion choices. While the bloggers and Instagrammers I follow are strutting their stuff in lovely sun dresses and summer clothes, I am still reaching for a jacket. This makes Kate the perfect inspiration as she loves her blazers and long sleeved tops. I have many similar signature Kate pieces in my wardrobe. The styles I have opted for are very casual yet still practical. A blazer is a perfect way to achieve a summer look. It can be taken off while the sun shines and thrown back on for the chillier evening. This is a very different post for me. Obviously (and sadly for me) I am nothing like Kate… you can’t blame a girl for trying though!

Look 1: Navy Blazer and Striped Top

Striped top with Blazer, Kate Middleton

Kate wore this Zara blazer twice during his trip to Australia and New Zealand. For more looks from this tour follow the links here, here and here. As pictured she wore it with a stripped top, navy jeans and LK Bennett navy wedges. The blazer I am wearing is also from Zara, about 6 or 7 years ago. It is nowhere near as sophisticated as Kate’s but it has tided me over well during the years. I paired mines with a similar striped t-shirt from Primark/Pennys, New Look jeans and Primark/Pennys replica LK Bennett wedges.

Look 2: Navy Blazer and Gingham Shirt

Gingham Shirt, Navy Blazer, Navy wedges, Kate Middleton Replica

I loved this look when Kate wore it to a wine tasting. It is great for transitioning your wardrobe from Spring to Summer. Unlike Kate’s my shirt is short sleeved but the blazer over the top is a good option for those of you in a cooler climate like myself. The shirt I’m wearing is from Primark/Pennys as are my jeans and wedges. If wedges aren’t your thing a pair of Converse would be a good alternative.

Look 3: Stripped Long Sleeved Top and Pumps

Kate Casual Stripes

Kate has worn this look on numerous occasions. While my shoes are not an exact replica of Kate’s boat shoes they fit in with the overall theme of the look. These pumps or boat shoes like Kate’s are a great summer shoe, especially if you are on the beach or poolside. My stripped top is from H&M, as are my jeans.

Above are some similar pieces and the actual Blazer Kate has, which I’m considering buying myself.

Maybelline Matte Maker Powder

Maybelline Matte Maker Swatch

Maybelline Matte Maker Powder and Ecotools brush

A few months ago numerous beauty blogs expressed their sadness over the discontinuation of Maybelline Dream Matte Powder. Then along came Maybelline Matte Maker. This product has been much buzzed about online and naturally I had to try it to see what all the fuss was about. Being loyal to Rimmel Stay Matte powder since I began using makeup in my early teens, it was high time I tried another powder.

Until recently I had very oily skin, but this has taken a U-turn and I find myself battling drier skin than usual. However, I still need a powder to combat shine and set my makeup. I absolutely love the name of this product, I’m a fool for catchy alliteration! The packaging itself is nothing spectacular. A clear plastic tub with black base and outline on the lid. I know a lot of people criticise the Rimmel plastic packaging aswel, it is easily scratched and dirtied but for the money I don’t expect a mirror and puff. I’ll admit, I prefer the Maybelline packaging to Rimmel’s. The black trim is more appealing to that of the Rimmel packaging. However, the main thing is that the product is easily accessible.

As to the powder itself, I bought this in a serious rush during a whirlwind 5 minute visit to Boots in Belfast with my cousin. I didn’t realise that this product came in different shades, I took it for granted that it was an overall translucent powder.  I picked up the shade 30 Natural Beige. This wasn’t a total disaster, as I’m so fair skinned and pale, anything with the word beige in it is usually not for me. Thankfully this wasn’t as dark as the name suggests. I haven’t had a chance to check in person but according to the Maybelline website there are 4 other shades available, with Natural Beige being the second lightest.

This is a great mattifying powder. Despite not paying attention to the shade, I really like that the powder adds extra but light coverage and colour. It is light on the skin and  easy to carry around and store in your makeup-bag. Like all powders, it is easily applied, I like to use my Eco-Tools fluffy big powder brush. The Matte Maker won’t weight down your skin, cake or cling to  any dry patches.

You can find this product at any Maybelline stand for £3.99 or €5.99.

Eiffel Tower Nail Stickers |BornPretty Review|

BornPretty Nail Stickers

BornPretty Nail Stickers

BornPretty Nail Stickers

Paris is by far my favourite city! Well, of all the cities I’ve visited… I loved the look of these Born Pretty Store Nostalgic Eiffel Tower Nail Stickers*. The packet contains 14 self adhesive stickers. Randomly enough though, upon closer inspection, two of these stickers include the Colosseum in Rome and Tower Bridge from London. Despite these two, three others include various perspectives of the Eiffel Tower and the final two are Paris themed.

To apply, select your desired sticker and remove the transparent cover. Align the bottom sticker to the top of your nail. Stick to your nail and shape accordingly. I used a nail file and a pair of scissors. To seal apply a clear coat of polish. I applied my stickers to my thumb and ring finger and paired them with BarryM ‘Almond’ polish on my index, middle and baby finger.

Sadly, I found these stickers quite hard to work with. I thought they were quite big for my nails. To make the most of the picture on the sticker your nails would have to be extremely long and wide. Mines are by no means short but they’re not overly long either. I would recommend using these on much longer nails to make the most of the design. These stickers did last well on my nails. Seeing as I have my hands in a lot of water I was impressed with the longevity and they didn’t chip.

I have reviewed other BornPretty nail art stickers before which I loved. I think the length and width of these stickers prevented me from making the most of them. If you want to try these for yourself or any other products from Born Pretty, for all vanessataaffe.wordpress.com there is a 10% discount code. At the checkout enter the code VSSW10 for the discount to apply.

Let me know if you have tried any of BornPrettyStore’s products and which ones you would recommend.

Best Dressed June 2014

Last month was full of red carpet fashion appearances many of which were for charity and hosted by major companies or design houses. Gold and yellows featured a lot, most notably on Blake Lively and Anna Gunn. Others to watch out for inculde Angelina Jolie and Nicola Peltz. As always there were numerous film premiers, fashion and acting awards and celebs papped out and about in their casual gear to satisfy our fashion needs.

The CFDA Awards

Alessandra Abrosio, Blake Lively, Coco Rocha

Alessandra Abrosio, Blake Lively and Coco Rocha at the CFDA Awards

For a fashion awards event I have to admit I was a tiny, tiny, tiny bit disappointed with the red-carpet looks. However, Alessandra Abrosio, Blake Lively and Coco Rocha made up for the other disappointments. Victoria Secret model Alessandra Abrosio looked like a bronzed statue in this Nonoo dress with intricate detailing on the bust and waist. Fashion It Girl and actress Blake Lively wore a  short golden Michael Kors dress. Blake paired the dress with numerous bangles, nude suede shoes and an interesting gold headband. Model Coco Rocha really brought the ‘fashion’ to the CFDA Awards this year! I loved the off shoulder Christian Siriano gown and hat/fascinator she wore. Granted it is summer and black and white doesn’t always fly but Coco looks so elegant and occasion appropriate.

Gucci Chime for Change Event

Beyonce, Blake Lively, Solange

Beyonce, Blake Lively, and Solange at the Gucci Chime for Change Event

Beyonce attended the Gucci event held in NYC only a few days after that infamous Solange-JayZ-Lift-Showdown.  And… Solange also attended! Despite this both sisters wore variations of white, a sign of peace perhaps? Bey in a white jumpsuit with a plunging V, Solange wearing wide flare, 70′s style trousers with bright orange top, also with a deep neckline. Bake makes it on the list once again for her Gucci look on this carpet.

Max Mara & W Magazine Cocktail Party

Sophia Bush, Stacey Kiebler and Rose Byrne at the Max Mara and W Magazine event

Sophia Bush, Stacy Keibler and Rose Byrne at the Max Mara and W Magazine event

A host of georgeous ladies attended the Max Mara and W Magazine cocktail party last month. My three favourites were Sophia Bush in an eye-catching print dress including florals, stripes and colour. I love the bright blue pointed shoes and black clutch. Pregnant Stacy Keibler poped (no, not her baby) at the event. The bright yellow-green dress and simple strappy shoes Stacy is wearing proves you don’t have to be a fuddy-duddy when you’re pregnant. Bad Neighbours actress Rose Byrne looked beautiful in midnight blue. The sparkles on the studded dress and tea-length are very classy. My only fault with this look is the shoes. I think they’re a big clash with the dress. A pair of strappy heels could have been a better choice.

Samsung Hope for Children Event

Jessica Szhor, Carrie Underwood and Jessica Beil at the Samsung NYC event

Jessica Szohr, Carrie Underwood and Jessica Alba at the Samsung NYC event

NYC was also host to the Samsung Hope for Children Charity event last month. Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr wore a beautiful full length ruffled and wrapped Lie Sang Bong dress to the event.  I love this colour on Jessica and her minimal accessories are the way to go. Carrie Underwood wore a black and silver asymmetrical Rubin Singer dress while Jessica Alba stunned as always in a simple red Preen dress.

The TONY Awards

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kate Mara and Anna Gunn

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kate Mara and Anna Gunn at the Tony Awards

Usually I see Maggie Gyllenhaal on the red carpet and shake my head. However, at the TONY Awards last month I was so shocked to see Maggie in a gorgeous white D&G dress. The feathers are very theatrical and flattering. The added sparkle on the dress completes the look. House of Cards actress Kate Mara also wore D&G to the event. The intricate beading and embellishments on this dress are very suited to Kate’s style. Anna Gunn stunned in a gorgeous gold Jenny Packham gown at the awards.  The subtle floral print in the dress is also great for the summer time. One of my favourites from the month.

Brights

Millie Mackintosh, Demi Lovato and Caggie Dunlop

Millie Mackintosh, Demi Lovato and Caggie Dunlop

Former Made In Chelsea stars Millie Mackintosh and Caggie Dunlop both attended the Beefeater Grill’S opening night. Both girls look very summery and on trend. Millie in a colourful aztec printed skirt  and Caggie in a blue and white printed mini-jumpsuit with orange shoes. Meanwhile, Demi Lovato wore a bight yellow and black dress to the Cosmopolitan Latina Awards.

White Wonders

Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Beil and Keira Knightly

Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley

Kate Beckinsale wore a white lacy strapless dress to the Macbeth after-party in NYC. Meanwhile in Paris, Jessica Biel looked a vision in an off-white Giambattista Valli dress, with matching shoes. Naturally as she was attending the Tiffany & Co. Paris launch, Jessica wore all Tiffany jewels. Keira Knightley was papped wearing an intricate white embroidered lace dress which is paired with gold heels and brown rimmed sunnies.

Film Premier  Looks

Anjelina Jolie, Nicola Peltz and Nicole Kidman

Angelina Jolie, Nicola Peltz and Nicole Kidman

Angelina Jolie stole the show in Shanghai  in a black Versace dress as she promoted her most recent film Maleficent, another of my favourite looks from last month.  My final favourite from last month is actress Nicola Peltz’s look. Nicola stunned in a blue floor length Balengciaga dress as she attended the NYC premier of her film Transformers. Can anyone else believe Nicola is only 19?!  Me either… Also in Shanghai last month, Nicole Kidman wore a sparkling D&G dress to the Shanghai Film Festival. This dress is super-glam and reminds me slightly of the Jenny Packham dress Kate Middleton wore last year.

Out and About

Stacy KeIbler, Selena Gomez and Sarah Jessica Parker

Stacy Keibler, Selena Gomez and Sarah Jessica Parker

On the list again, Stacy looked great in a casual white dress, brown boots, bag and fab maroon hat get-up as she shopped. Selena Gomez also looked chic as she shopped in LA wearing light blue denim jeans, nude heels and blue knitted jumper. SJP was spotted in NYC wearing bright purple heels, a polka dot dress and black blazer. All three ladies wore oversized sunglasses to top off the look.

Jordan Dunn. David Gandy and Samantha Barks

Jordan Dunn. David Gandy and Samantha Barks

In London, models Jordan Dunn and David Gandy wore Burberry as they attended the Burberry Prorsum menswear show. Jordan wore dark skinny jeans, a casual grey top with a black biker jacket over her shoulders. David looked very 1920′s wearing dark dress trousers, tan brogues, a white t-shirt and cream blazer. And finally, actress Samantha Barks was photographed in London wearing a casual blue jean, black blazer and white top combo.

Let me know who your favourite from last month was!

♫ Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire ♫

Happy 4th of July to my American readers! America is without a doubt number one on my list of ‘Must Visit’ countries. New York, Los Angeles and of course the famous Las Vegas, are all cities I can’t wait to explore. When Vegas.com contacted me to see if I would be interested in compiling a style post for a day spent at the Aria Hotel*, I jumped at the chance. Naturally, this being a fictional visit to the Aria, I went to town with the designer gear and accessories that are definitely out of my price range. Unless I get lucky in the casino that is…

The Aria Hotel Resort and Casino Las Vegas

The Aria Hotel Resort and Casino Las Vegas

Breakfast and Exploring

Breakfast, for many the most important meal of the day, can be spent in the Jean Philippe Pâtisserie. A floaty dress like this floral Oneness is one trend for summer and meal appropriate as it’s not too constrictive. Paired with Kate Spade cork wedges, a Victoria Beckham bag and Kwiat earrings for a bit of glamour in the morning. To coordinating, on the nails, Essie’s “She Said Yes”, for lips Clinique’s Chubby stick in the shade “Budding Blossom”, a bit of Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer to contour the cheeks, temples and jawline and a light dusting of your favourite colours from Urban Decay’s Naked 3 Palette on the eyes.

Poolside Lounging
After breakfast and some exploring around the hotel, I’d be straight to one of the amazing pools the Aria has to offer. I love the bright colours of this Hot Anatomy bikini and the tropical floral print. Of course, oversized sunglasses like these Fendi ones are a must. To keep it chic, I’d add a double lined turquoise bracelet, white wedges and a floppy white hat. To match and store all my poolside essentials, a white Michael Kors handbag. Being fair skinned sun cream is vital if I’m at the pool, a lip balm with SPF like the Body Shop’s vitamin E is also handy to have along with a compact shine controlling powder and a bright pink nail like NARS Schiap.
Dinner At Sage in Las Vegas #MyVegasStyle
Dinner time at beautiful Sage Restaurant demands a show stopper. This green Lanvin full length one shoulder dress would be my choice. For a change from my usual taste in silver jewels and accessories, I’d reach for these gold Jimmy Choo strappy sandals, a Trellis Lover gold clutch bag and Carolina Bucci ‘Mirador’ half ball earrings to round off the accessories. For some added drama a red lip like Rihanna’s from MAC, dramatic lashes with Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara and some Chanel no.5 perfume.
Night Out in Las Vegas #MyVegasStyle
If it’s a night out I was after, Haze would be my first choice. What’s a night out with out an LBD? This Herve Leger, black with grey panels and a pair of black Staurt Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals would be my go-to LBD-Shoe combo. To go all out with jewellery, I’d reach for a Tiffany & Co. diamond bracelet and pair of earrings. A black Karen Millen clutch and I’d be ready to party!
Let me know what your #MyVegasStyle day at the Aria Hotel would look like and which is your favourite look above!

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Intensive Mask Review

Working in a hairdresser’s part time has made me determined to try and know as much as I can about products available for dry and damaged hair. Particularly conditioning masks. I am often in contact with dry or damaged hair and know the value of a good deep conditioning treatment. Not for other’s hair but my own too. While I wouldn’t classify my own hair as overly dry or damaged I like to use products aimed at this hair type to keep my own in good condition. Years ago I stopped using a normal conditioner and instead replaced it with an intensive mask. I know this might seem a little extreme but I find it is the best way to condition, strengthen and care for my hair.

Now you know what I’m working with, let me introduce you to Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Intensive Mask. This is a ‘rinse me out’ conditioning mask aimed at very dry and damaged hair.  It invites you to “Step this way to hydration heaven… Give me 1 minute to do my stuff, and rinse me away. For best results, let’s get together 2-3 times a week”.  I have steadily been using this product now for a month and as with all Herbal Essences products I was sold on the smell alone. An intensive but light coconutty smell greets you once you unscrew the plastic lid of the tub.

The mask itself is a light blue-white colour which ties in with the blue packaging, which I quite like. While the initial smell promises so much I find that it doesn’t leave hair as intensely scented as the product in the tub. The best way to get the smell to stick is, once you are out of the shower, squeeze the water out of your hair and blow dry immediately. I found that towel drying or air drying hair for a while before blowdrying takes away whatever little scent has transferred to my hair.

The product claims to leave you with soft, shiny, conditioned and hydrated hair and it delivers these well. I find my hair is definitely soft and hydrated when I use this mask. This softness usually lasts for about a day, maybe a day and a half, all depending on what I’m doing. I haven’t noticed my hair that much shinier but like with the scent, this product delivers best when the freshly treated hair is blowdried. As far as value for money goes, you get a tub of 200 ml of product from around £2.50 – £4.39. I bought mines in ASDA, where recently I seem to be buying all my beauty products, on offer at 2 for £4.

This is a good mask for under a fiver and I have started a second tub. I used to use Herbal Essences products in my early teens but stopped because I found they were leaving too much residue on my hair. This is the first product in their extensive range that I have really enjoyed using and would recommend. Although Herbal Essences Hello Hydration is not the most nourishing hair mask I’ve ever used, for the price and promises of soft, hydrated hair, it is a great mask and definitely worth a try.

Let me know if you have tried this or any other products and what you made of them. I’m always looking for new ones to try!

Shop the Trend: Blue&White Floral Print

This summer has been all about blue and white floral print. This trend has been particularly prevalent on celebrities this season.  It’s easy to see why everyone has been favouring this look. Unlike many trends I think this look compliments all skin tones, shapes and sizes. Blue and white compliment each other perfectly and floral is great if you don’t want to go all out on crazy bright colours this summer.

Lupita Nyongo, Kte Middleton, Michelle Obama and Ariana Grande, all wearing blue and white floral dresses

Lupita Nyongo, Kte Middleton, Michelle Obama and Ariana Grande, all wearing blue and white floral dresses

There are many variations of this trend. A fuller floral pattern like Michelle Obama’s or the print singer Ariana Grande donned, is  a fuller floral print. As an alternative, a subtler print like Kate and Luptia  are seen wearing, is just as effective and a great way to wear the trend if you’re a Less-is-More kinda girl.
Caggie Dunlop, Alesha Dixon and Kaley Cuco in playsuits

Caggie Dunlop, Alesha Dixon and Kaley Cuco in playsuit

This print has been pulled off in both dress and playsuit form. Caggie, Alesha and Kaley were all pictured at redcarpet events wearing playsuits.  Alesha and Caggie wore long sleeved variations while Kaley wore a sleeveless number. Unlike the ladies above who opted to style their dresses with nude or navy shoes, Caggie saw the playsuit as an opportunity to go for a bright shoes and add some interest to the outfit.
A great idea if you’d like to add some fun to the look.
Below I’ve featured some of my favourite pieces available to buy now. Let me know which look you like best and how you style this print!

New The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash |Review|

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash

The Body Shop Cool & Creamy Wash Swatch

Oh, The Body Shop! I rarely shop in The Body Shop. Not because I don’t love it, the smells, friendly staff, the anti-animal testing policy and general good morality surrounding the brand, I love it too much. I always spend a small fortune when I shop there. This time, being well prepared and armed with a list, I was on a mission.  I had read some very positive reviews about the new Tea Tree Cool and Creamy Wash so I decided it was high time to give it a try.

Firstly, I can’t believe how inexpensive this wash is….A mere £5! Despite the numerous reviews I had read I forgot to look at the price. This is hands down the best cleanser I have ever tried for a fiver. Ever! Designed for blemished skin, the Cool & Creamy Wash actively treats blemished skin without drying it out. This is a major plus for me as usually products aimed at spotty or spot prone skin are designed to combat oil aswell, thus drying it out. At the moment my skin is dry and spotty. I was delighted to find a face wash that didn’t strip any precious moisture from my face or leave it feeling tight. The Tea Tree formula is aimed to reduce redness and the appearance of spots. I can’t say that this completely clears all spots (an impossible task it seems) but it does reduce their appearance on your face. It is not aimed to stops  you getting spots altogether but it definitely reduces redness.

The wash itself is very creamy and soft, especially when worked onto the skin, where it turns to a milky consistency. I apply a small amount, depending on whether I’m wearing makeup or not, to my finger tips and gently work it into my skin. There is quite a strong Tea Tree smell, as expected, from this product. At first it reminded me of the Tea Tree shampoos designed to combat head lice. Not a pretty picture but I got an immediate flashback to being 8 years old and using that shampoo… Despite my initial reaction and memories, I have grown to really love the smell. I now associated with clean, clearer skin. The wash leaves a lovely cooling sensation on the skin. This is particularly tingly and cooling if used in the shower which intensifies the cooling agent. The cleanser is packaged in a plastic tube.  My only problem with it is the clear plastic lid which is quite delicate, mine broke when the tube fell in the shower.

The Body Shop Cool and Creamy Wash leaves your skin feeling fantastically smooth and velvety. It’s not the best product for removing tough makeup though. If you are planning to use this to remove makeup, I find it best to cleanse twice so your skin is 100% makeup free. Make sure to avoid using this too close to your eyes as it would sting like mad if it came in contact with them.

Overall, I really love this product and can’t say enough good things about it. It is a definite new favourite and I look forward to using it when I wake up and before I go to bed! Let me know if you have used this before or any other products in the Body Shop Tea Tree range. For more info visit thebodyshop.co.uk.

Style Inspiration: Emmanuelle Alt

Emmanuelle Alt, Editor-in-Chief Vogue Paris

Emmanuelle Alt, Editor-in-Chief Vogue France

Two months ago flipping through the July issue of British Vogue, I came across an article, “Control ALT”. Despite the bold title it was the accompanying picture that captured my attention. A tall stunning brunette with a slight smirk leaning against a wall with two windows and standing near a blue rug, arms crossed over a sequined Saint Laurent jacket met by a pair of black skinny jeans. This impossibly cool and captivating woman featured in a four page spread was editor-in-chief of Vogue France, Emmanuelle  Alt.

The article chronicled Alt’s time and influence at Vogue France. It also featured snippets of her personal style. The ten pictures accompanying the write up left me feeling inspired by Alt’s style. Her look is effortless, classic, cool and typically French! Emmanuelle’s style has become as influential as the girls she features in her magazine.

Typically Alt’s style consists of skinny black or white jeans, boots or reasonably sized pointed heels. After some extensive Googling, I failed to find any photos of Alt in a skirt or dress. Jeans and tailored trousers are a must in the Alt Uniform. Another staple includes coats or jackets belted, never buttoned. The colour scheme employed by Alt generally alternates between black, white, blues, greys and back to black.

Emmanuelle Alt Blazers

Alt wearing various oversized blazers

Alt is regularly spotted on her way to shows or meetings in oversized blazers with rolled up sleeves, a simple tshirt and signature black jeans always grazing the calves with a pair of pointed black heels to match.

Alt's belted jackets

Alt’s belted jackets

Alt never buttons her jackets, opting to close them with a belt. I love this look! It’s so stylish and she still looks comfy and warm.

Emmanuelle Alt Jeans

Alt looking more casual, yet still chic, in jeans, also pictured Alt’s daughter.

All of Alt’s looks are easily replicated and very wearable. Everyone will have a pair of black or denim jeans and a coat or shirt they can style together.

For me, it’s the the simplicity of Alt’s style that makes her a style icon.

Let me know your favourite Emmanuelle Alt look and if she has inspired your style!

Best Dressed July 2014

With summer well and truly under way July was a great fashion month. Gallery exhibitions and Wimbledon provided excellent celebrity style displays. Pink was a big colour trend sported last month by Suki Waterhouse, J Lo, Jessica Alba and Abbey Clancy.  Summer floras and prints were also prominent. From causal to uber-chic July did not disappoint us style hunters!

The Serpentine Gallery London

Couples at the Serpentine Gallery Party, Richard Fleeshman and Samantha Barks, Suki Waterhouse and Bradley Cooper, James Righton and Keira Knightley

Couples at the Serpentine Gallery Party, Richard Fleeshman and Samantha Barks, Suki Waterhouse and Bradley Cooper, James Righton and Keira Knightley

There’s nothing I love more than Fashionable couples! Acting and singing duo Samantha Barks and new BF Richard Fleeshman attended the London event. Samantha wore a metallic sparkling Lanvin dress and heels to match. Richard kept it stylish in a white shirt almost denim/navy suit and navy suede loaders. Celeb couple of the moment Bradley Cooper and Suiki Waterhouse looked stylish at the event. Suki wearing  a soft pink Burberry dress and TopShoe shoes, Bradley wearing a suit and blue shirt. Keira Knightley and husband James Righton also attended the event together. Keira wore mishmash Chanel dress. I have seen some harsh criticism for this dress online but I quite like the three-dresses-in-one look on Keira. James looked very smart in a suit and dickiebow.

Alexa Chung, Princess Beatrice and Cara Delevingne

Alexa Chung, Princess Beatrice and Cara Delevingne

Models Alexa Chung and Cara Delevingne both wore black. Alexa Wore a beautiful strapless structured Erdem dress while Cara wore a Mulberry dress with keyhole detailing on the chest. Princess Beatrice looked lovely in  a stunning white Nicholas Oakwell number. Too add some interest and youth to the look Beatrice added lilac strappy heels.

Gemma Arterton, Pharell Williams and Sarah Jessica Parker

Gemma Arterton, Pharrell Williams and Sarah Jessica Parker

Gemma Arterton looked red hot in a matching two piece Prabal Guran skirt and crop top at the event. Gemma’s hair and makeup match the sexiness of this outfit. A real stand-out for me! Singer Pharrell Williams brought his famous hat out again at the gallery. Wearing ripped skinny jeans, runners (no socks), a blazer and white printed t, Mr Williams is the epitome of cool. SJP lived up to her fashion icon status in a frapper style Naeem Khan dress. She finished the look with black shoes and a poker straight hairdo.

Wimbledon 2014

David and Victoria Beckham, Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshaw, Christine Blekely and Frank Lampard

David and Victoria Beckham, Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshaw, Christine Bleakely and Frank Lampard

Not long after celebrating 15 years of marriage together David and Victoria Beckham were seen in the Royal Box to watch the Men’s singles final. Victoria is wearing, you guessed it, Victoria Beckham Resort 2015. David looks preppy chic in a cream and navy Ralph Lauren suit combo. Newly engaged Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshaw attended the Lawn Tennis club together, Eddie wore a snazzy Alexander Mc Queen suit and lace tie! Hannah matched in a denim dress. Christine Bleakely and Frank Lampard looked stylish as they prepared to take their seats in the royal box at Wimbledon. Christine looked summery in a long polkadot skirt with white top and shoes. Frank looked very smart in a navy three-piece suit and brown shoes.

Anna Wintour, Kate Middleton and David Beckham

Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour wore a summery floral number to watch the tennis. As always her hair was in her perfectly coiffed signature bob. Kate Middleton re-wore this Jonathan Saunders aqua green printed dress to the Men’s final as she attended with Prince William. David Beckham made a solo appearance to the tennis wearing Ralph Lauren again! I love the mustard and brown combo. He is one very well dressed man!

 Dior Couture Show Paris

Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Palermo and Charlize Theron.

A stylish troop of ladies attended the fashion houses’ show in Paris last month, all wearing Dior, of course. Emma Watson wore a black and white structured silk dress with sheer skirt with half circles. She styled the dress with white pointed shoes and a black clutch. Brand ambassador Jennifer Lawrence made a rare public appearance at the show. She wore an elegant silk scarf top and white high-waisted suede skirt, pairing them with pointed black and white shoes. Newly married Olivia Palermo wore a black  button skirt, two-tone jacket and a printed green blouse combo to attend the show. The brands most famous face Charlize Theron glittered in  a tight gold mini with strappy golden heels.

Jessica Alba was spotted in a MaxMara outfit in Santa Monica. I love this get-up! The purple jeans and pale pink  blazer perfectly compliment each other, a look  that would work well in either summer or winter. Poppy Delevigne was in Paris last month attending the Bulgari Cocktail party. Poopy wore a white lace dress with pointed white and gold shoes. She added a denim blazer with interesting curves to make her outfit more casual. Reese Witherspoon was seen looking summery and professional as she left her offices in LA. I love the length of this top and skirt and the coloured bag brings some life to the outfit.

Black is the Colour

Taylor Swift, Nina Dobrev and Olivia Palermo

Taylor Swift, Nina Dobrev and Olivia Palermo

Going dotty in NYC, Taylor Swift rocked a brassiere crop top with a matching split knee length skirt to beat the city heat. I love Taylor’s green box bag. A young and fun outfit. Actress Nina Dobrev was spotted many time last month at various fashion shows in Paris, the lucky girl! Here Nina is pictured at Elie Sabb wearing a rockier look of a long flowy skirt with black heels, leather jacket and sheer top. Also attending the Elie Sabb Paris Show, newly married Olivia Palermo. Olivia looked her usual super-stylish-self in floral printed skinny jeans, a tailored blazer and white top.

Pretty in Pinks

Abbey Clancey, JLo, Keira Knightley

Abbey Clancy, Jennifer Lopez and Keira Knightley

Model Abbey Clancy was papped in London in a pretty pink long sleeved dress.  I loved the pouting-pink-lip details on the sheer sleeves. Sadly the black shoes let this outfit down for me but apart from that Abbey looks like she could have just stepped off a runway. At the League of United Latin American Citizens’ National Convention for the Empowerment of Latinos in New York, J Lo wore a stunning pink Zuhair Murad look wearing a silk blouse with floral-embroidered appliqués and a peplum tea length pencil skirt. This is my favourite look from July, I think Jennifer looks like the epitome of elegance in this dress and her hairdo and minimal accessories add to the elegance. A barefaced Keira Knightley was photographed in a floral colourful  dress leaving a London restaurant with husband James. Keira also sported a black classic Chanel bag and gladiator sandals. Very summery!

Toni Garn, Anna Camo and Ashley Tisdale

Toni Garn, Anna Camp and Ashley Tisdale

German model, Toni Garn looked great in a green Elie Sabb gownn as she attended the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation event last month. As always Elie Sabb gowns are a perfect redcarpet choice, I  love the neckline and  minimal accessories. Anna Camp looked fab as she made an appearance at the Young Hollywood Awards. This dress is so on trend with the lace, bow and then plain structured skirt. Anna also went for a fun red lip and leopard print shoes to make the overall look occasion appropriate. Ashley Tisdale, also at the Young Hollywood Awards stunned in a white and silver midi dress. Again, I really like the neckline of this dress and the strappy silver shoes.

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil Info

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil has to be the most buzzed about product of 2014 so far. And rightly so! This facial cleansing oil is superb. This product has become a go-to makeup remover for many, myself included. I’d be lost without it. After a busy day or night out it is the quickest and handiest way to remove any and all makeup. The real test for me is a product’s ability to remove my Revlon Colour Stay Foundation. As it’s the toughest, long lasting foundation I own. This cleansing oil removes it and my waterproof mascara with ease.

To use, I squirt one pump of oil and rub the product between my two hands, mainly my fingertips and gently massage it onto a dry face. The product begins to break down, turning to a silky texture on your face while melting the makeup. For eyes I like to use roughly half a pump more if I’m removing a particularly tough waterproof mascara, gently rubbing the product onto my lashes and eyes, working it in. Warning: You will look like a scary Panda Eyed Lady when you get to this stage of cleansing! Then to remove, I use a wet facecloth to clean the product off my face. It helps to have the sink full of warm water as it takes a few goes to remove all the makeup. Cotton pads would do the job aswell. These are optional but they give the best result. After I have removed this from my skin I tend to follow up with another Body Shop favourite, the Cool & Creamy Wash. It’s not necessary for a second cleanse as the Camomile oil removes everything from my face, but I love using the Cool & Creamy Wash at any opportunity.

This silky facial oil smells pleasant. I fall in and out of love with the smell but overall it’s nice. It will leave skin feeling fully clean and it is suitable for all skin types, even oily skin. I know there is a big taboo surrounding applying oil to already oily skin. While the product is an oil it turns to a silky milky texture once in contact with the face. It feels so luxurious and soft. It’s almost like a mini-facial. It’s not an overly moisturising oil as the idea is to remove makeup not moisturise. However, this on rare occasions has the inside of my nose/start of my cheeks slightly dry. I have put this down to using a facecloth which can be a bit harsh and abrasive on the skin. The product description also claims the product is suitable for contact lens wearers.

One of the biggest pluses for me surrounding this product is the price. For £10 you get an amazing makeup remover and skincare product. I have heard and read that this product is akin to the most expensive facial oils. While I can’t speak for that myself, not having tried any others. The Body Shop are really upping their game with their skincare range this year and the Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil is no exception.

Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer

Maybelline The Eraser Concealer in Light. Swatch and sponge applicator

Maybelline The Eraser Eye Concealer

This concealer was almost impossible to get my hands on! The rave reviews and hype surrounding this product lead to an onslaught of people scouring local Boots, Superdrugs, Chemists and ASDA’s for this small bottle of concealer. I have to confess, I’m very disappointed with the shade range. On the Maybelline US site there are six different shades available. However, in Ireland and the UK there are only 2 shades on offer, ‘Light’ or ‘Nude’.

I have very fair skin so I purchased ‘Light’. The colour is quite dark and on occasion, it can look orange on the skin, which is sometimes noticeable on top of foundation. You can see in the picture where I have swatched this on the back of my hand that it’s a tad dark for me. When I use a MAC foundation the colour and orange tone is less noticeable as I find that my MAC foundation oxidises. Otherwise, this Eraser Concealer requires a lot of blending which I feel sheers the product out too much on the skin. I end up having to go back for more. While I don’t mind building up the coverage, after several attempts it can being to look cakey and  it starts to dry out the under-eye area. I’ve read on the blogospehere that this a medium-full coverage concealer. Personally I would class this as light-medium coverage. I don’t think it delivers on the coverage required for my under-eye area. Perhaps if the shade was correct for my skin tone I wouldn’t have this problem.

That said, if I have fake tan on and I’m using a darker foundation, this stuff works much better. It is marketed as an under-eye concealer but I also use it on my (millions of) spots and it does works well concealing them and the surrounding redness. I usually use my ring finger to blend after applying it with the built in sponge applicator. I know a lot of people hate this aspect of the concealer. Yes, it is slightly unhygienic and a bit of a gimic, but other than that I think it distributes the product well. To use, simply twist the bottle below the sponge. Caytion to first time users, it will take a lot of twisting for the product to come to the surface so just check you don’t over twist and end up with a lot of concealer on the sponge. The concealer is housed in a plastic glass effect bottle. It’s quite like a mini foundation! I like the packaging as I can see the product and it’s simple, with no fuss, bar the sponge applicator.

I do like this concealer although I don’t feel like it’s lived up to the major hype. Maybelline’s Instant Anti-Age The Eraser Eye concealer is (a mouthful to say) an overall good concealer. If the shade range was improved in Ireland and the UK, I think this concealer could be up there with the best of them.

It’s on sale now for £7.99 in most chemists and drugstores…if you can find it!

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Packaging

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Swatch, 100 Ivory

Usually what spurs me on to buy a product is one of two things. 1) I run out of it or, 2) A friend or a good review persuades me to buy it. On this occasion, the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation was lying in my friend’s makeup bag. In a rush on a spur of the moment casual night out, I topped up my foundation with her bottle of this stuff, which she says she really liked. Feeling like I didn’t give it a proper go and mostly liking it, I bought my own.

I weirdly like the tube packaging. The thing that gets me is that the tube holds 30 mls of product. The majority of foundations I own are in glass or glass-effect cylindrical bottles, making them look like there is loads of product inside. It’s been years since I’ve used a mousse formula foundation. Most likely circa 2007/2008 when the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation was a teen favourite! It would be unfair to compare the two here since I haven’t used the Dream Matte Mousse in so long, but the Stay Matte has a similar texture only with less bubbles and better user-friendly packaging. Seeing as this is a high-street brand, I thought the decal would rub off the tube but so far it’s lasting well and is easily cleaned. Thumbs up in the hygiene department.

Rimmel claim that this foundation “minimises the appearance of pores”, gives you a “baby-soft finish” and “won’t feel heavy or greasy”.  I don’t feel like this dramatically reduces the appearance of pores. The foundation is definitely light weight on the skin. It doesn’t look cakey and is so easy to blend. I like to use a face brush or my hands to apply this. A little goes a long way, I always managed to squeeze out too much. It applies matte and I’d say without topping this up with powder I got about 7-8 hours of matte-ness. After this though I find my skin goes quite shiny and slightly greasy so it requires some powder.

I picked up the shade Ivory 100 which is sadly too dark for me. It was the lightest shade available in most of the shops I’ve been in. The Rimmel and Boots websites have advertised that there are 5 shades available with one lighter than 100 Ivory, so I think I’ll grab the lighter one if I come across it. I really like the coverage and feel of this product on the skin. When applying to dry skin I recommend heavily moisturising before hand. If you skip this step it will cling slightly to any dry patches.

The Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation is on sale now for £5.99 or €7.95.

Garnier Fresh Radience Boosting Scrub

Garnier Fresh Radience Boosting Scrub Info

Garnier Fresh Radience Boosting Scrub Swatch

I was so excited to try this Garnier Radience Boosting Scrub. Having read online it was a dupe for the Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser (name and all), I picked up a bottle for the bargain price of £3. The scrub is marketed as ‘wake me up’ facial scrub which aims to revive dull and tired skin.  Sadly, after only a few uses I found I was getting bad breakouts. While I do have spot prone skin, these breakouts were in areas such as my cheeks, where I never usually get spots.

Despite the breakouts, my skin always felt smooth, soft and clean after using this product. The smell of this scrub is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Fruity, citrusy, summery and fresh. An extremely appealing smell. This could have been the reason my skin broke out. I don’t usually break out in spots as a result of using a scented product but in this case that could well be the problem. It’s just so hard to resit this product because it smells so nice!  If you have dry or sensitive skin I wouldn’t recommend using this wash everyday. Although it’s not overly abrasive as the exfoliating beads are small, it can dry out skin and leave it feeling slightly tight.

I love the packaging. It’s clean, easy to use and has a very appealing orange and white colour-combo. It’s sturdy and houses 150 mls of product. I’m not going to write this product off just yet. Apart from the breakouts, I got good results from using this scrub,it really does have that ‘wake me up’ factor. Maybe when my skin calms down I’ll give it another try or just use it once a week. For now it’s sitting on the shelf, smelling gorgeous but with no one to appreciate it.

The Garnier Fresh Radiance Boosting Scrub is available on offer at ASDA for £3, retailing for £3.99 everywhere else.

The #ALSIceBucketChallenge has been doing the internet rounds for weeks now and it is not showing any signs of slowing down. The challenge aims to raise vital funds and awareness for ALS or Motor Neuron Disease. There have been various charity social media trends this year for good causes, like the #NoMakeupSelfie for Breast Cancer Awareness at the start of the year. However, the Ice Bucket Challenge is by far my favourite! Aren’t fundraisers better when there are soaking wet celebrities involved?!

Justin Timberlake

I love the energy and collective effort JT and his team went to in this video. They make the challenge look fun and exciting.

David Beckham

Well if a shirtless David Beckham doesn;t put a smile on your face, I don’t know what will!

Lady GaGa

Cool, calm and collected!

Niall Horan

Great reaction by everyone’s favourite One Directioner!

Victoria Beckham

The sheer delight and laughter in the background of this video is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face. Victoria getting drenched is an added laugh.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Only Leo could do an IceBucketChallenege whilst raising awareness for two important charities. A true philanthropist.

Michelle Dockery

I love Michelle’s video! Surrounded by half naked men in golden shorts and  she gives us possibly one of the best reactions to the ice cold water.

Don’t forget to donate if you do the challenge! Let me know your favourite video, celebrity or otherwise!

Best Dressed August 2014

The end of August saw some great red-carpet appearances from television, film and music royalty. The Emmy Awards, MTV’s Video Music Awards and The Teen Choice Awards last month displayed some great style his on the carpet. Of course, banks of photographers were there to capture every moment of it.

The EMMYS 2014

Kiernan Shipka, Sofia Vergara, Joanne Froggatt and Taylor Schilling at The Emmy's 2014

Kiernan Shipka, Sofia Vergara, Joanne Froggatt and Taylor Schilling at The Emmys 2014

Televisions equivalent to the Oscars, the Emmys sees TV’s finest strut their stuff on the red carpet. Mad Men’s fourteen year old Kiernan Shipka looked beautiful in this grey Antonio Berandi dress. It’s appropriate for her age, feminine and pretty. I love the jewelled detailing across the waist/stomach area. Everyone’s fave Colombian, Sofia Vergara stunned in a white and silver detailing Roberto Cavalli gown on the red carpet while Joanne Froggatt ditched her doudy Downton maid uniform for a show-stopping J Mendel dress. I can’t get enough of the flowing material leading to a gorgeous skirt and the chain detailing on the bust. A best dressed contender for me! Orange is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling wore a full length Zuhair Maurad beaded dress which perfectly compliments her great figure.

Sarah Paulson and Lizzy Caplan at The Emmy's 2014

Sarah Paulson and Lizzy Caplan at The Emmy’s 2014

Opting for a darker look on the Emmy red-carpet, Sarah Paulson looked amazing in an Armani Prive black gown with a spotted red netting overlay. Personally I love this dress and look on Paula, although the jury is still out for many online critics. Everyone loves a risk taker! Hasn’t Lizzy Caplan come a long way from her Janice Ian Mean Girls days? I think Lizzy looks like the belle of the ball in this black and white Donna Karan Atelier number. Another best dressed contender.

The VMA’s 2014

Keltie Knight, Bianca A Santos and Greer Grammer at The VMA's 2014

Keltie Knight, Bianca A Santos and Greer Grammer at The VMA’s 2014

TV Host Keltie Knight looked ultra-feminine and glamorous in a figure hugging blue and nude crop top and pencil skirt. I love the strappy gold shoes which top off her romantic look. Actress Bianca A Santos looked regal in a gold flapper-esque Naeem Khan dress. It’s short, gorgeous and perfect for the VMA’s! Greer Grammer brought some summer colour to the red-carpet in her bright bluey-turquoise hued dress by Walter Mendez. Although the sheerness and beaded appliqué is slightly revealing I think the feminine flowy skirt and side split make this look red-carpet appropriate.

The Teen Choice Awards 2014

Cat Deeley, Nina Dobrev and Taylor Swift at The Teen Choice Awards 2014

Cat Deeley, Nina Dobrev and Taylor Swift at The Teen Choice Awards 2014

Cat, Nina and Taylor brought some great colour to the Teen Choice Awards blue-carpet last month. Cat opted for a brilliantly bright orange Alberta Ferretti dress. I’m loving the floral detailing on the waist and Cat’s skinny nude heels. The Vampire Diaries star and fashionista, Nina Dobrev looked fabulous as always in Vionnet crop top and shorts combo. The pink pointed shoes perfectly accentuate the pink in the outfit. Taylor Swift wore a gorgeous green   Novis skirt and crop top combo with yellow shoes to the awards. This look is bang on trend and I really like the colour combinations by both Taylor and Nina.

Cher Lloyd, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez at The Teen Choice Awards 2014

Cher Lloyd, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez at The Teen Choice Awards 2014

X Factor star Cher Lloyd is making quite a name for herself in America. Cher attended The Teen Choice Awards wearing a black and sheer Amen and Theory outfit. Putting her legs on display, Cher paired her short-shorts with a sheer studded, armoured long sleeved top. Fellow X Factor alumni Demi Lovato also attended wearing a white sophisticated Elisabetta Franci dress which she paired with gold pointed shoes. Selena Gomez also donned a pair of pointed shoes, this time in silver, as she strutted her stuff on the blue carpet wearing Saint Laurent jumpsuit.

Also Spotted Last Month…

Frankie Stanford, Katie Holmes, Odea Rush, Taylor Swift and Megan Fox

Frankie Stanford, Katie Holmes, Odea Rush, Taylor Swift and Megan Fox

The Saturday’s member, Frankie Stanford was pictured leaving ITV studios wearing a gorgeous dark purple top with sheer cut-out panel and a light lilac skirt. I love this look as it’s easy to replicate and looks effortlessly stylish. Elsewhere in New York, Katie Holmes, Odea Rush and Taylor Swift posed together on the red carpet at the premiere of their film, The Giver.  All three wore girl flowy dresses and all different lengths. Also in NYC Megan Fox looked lovely on the red carpet at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiere. Megan looked her usual fab-self in a mish-mash of black and white prints, which she paired with a pair of classy shoes.

Spot the Trend: Denim on Denim

Cast your mind back to 2001. It’s the American Music Awards and Britney and JT strutted their stuff in matching double denim outfits, sparkles and all. Remember when everyone laughed? Well fear not denim lovers! The Double Denim trend has taken a fashionable turn. Last week style icon Olivia Palermo was spotted at New York Fashion week looking gorgeous, as always, in denim on denim, as she attended the Marchesa fashion show. As expected the double denim debate has begun again. This time however, the former 90’s fashion faux pas is fast becoming a fashion must.

Olivia Palermo September 2014 V Britney & Justin 2001

Olivia Palermo September 2014 V Britney & Justin 2001

Looking around the shops recently, denim is making a major fashion comeback. While double denim has long been classified as a ‘No’, a cluster of stars have made it socially acceptable to unleash our inner cowgirl. Below are some of my favourite ways and inspirations to wear denim on denim.

Light on Light

Miranda Kerr, Kim Kardashian, Zoe Saldana, Zendaya all wearing denim on denim

Miranda Kerr, Kim Kardashian, Zoe Saldana, Zendaya all wearing denim on denim

Matching light denims which we associate with 90’s mania, have been given a fashionable reboot by the likes of Miranda Kerr, Kim Kardashian, Zoe Saldana and Zendaya. These ladies have all worn light denim on denim in a stylish way, minimal accessories are key with this look. Kim and Zendaya opted to wear pointed shoes for some interest while Miranda chose leaopard print shoes to add some fun.

Darks and Lights

Christina Hendrix, Kate Boswort, Holly Willoughby wearing dark and light double denim

Christina Hendrix, Kate Bosworth, Holly Willoughby wearing dark and light double denim

A less in your face way to rock the double denim look is to pair lights and dark denims. Christina Hendrix and Holly Willoughby both paired their light denim shirts with black. Kate Bosworth paired her light blue denim shirt with a dark navy pair of jeans. This is by far the most wearable look of all the denim on denim trends.

Alessandra Ambrosio, Reese Witherspoon and Rihanna in denim on denim

Alessandra Ambrosio, Reese Witherspoon and Rihanna in denim on denim

Alessandra Ambrosio has styled double denim with browns to give some variation to the look while Reese and Rihanna decided to both go for a nude shoes and black bag. Another great alternative if you are styling this look at home.

Denim Shorts and Skirts

Double Denim Shorts and Skirts

Rihanna, Olivia Palmermo and Miranda Kerr wearing double denim shorts and skirts

If you’re not a jeans kinda girl, grab your beloved Daisy Dukes or 90’s Skirt and pair them with a denim shirt like Rihanna, Olivia and Miranda. Make sure to pair with a nude shoes and you’re good to go.

Granted, double denim is not for everyone. The key is to pair it with another denim piece you feel comfortable in. Luckily there can be no clashing with denims. Another alternative is to opt for a white jean skirt, shorts or trousers to lessen the visual denim on denim impact.

Let me know if you’ll be wearing double denim this season and who your inspiration is!

Incase you missed it… George Clooney got married! As always, Mr Clooney wore Armani but his gorgeous wife Amal stepped out in a variety of beautiful designer outfits for us to drool over. Including the wedding of the year, so far, September was also unofficial Fashion Month. With runways and front rows brimming with style and sophistication Paris, New York and Milan brought loads of desirable styles to the fore. Film festivals and film premières topped of the red carpet looks featured in this months best dressed list.

Amal Alamuddin aka Mrs Clooney

Amal Alamuddin and George Clooney's wedding weekend, Stella McCartney, Oscar de la Renta and Giambissta Valli

Amal Alamuddin and George Clooney’s wedding weekend, Stella McCartney, Oscar de la Renta and Giambattista Valli

After what can only be described as a fairytale wedding and weekend in Italy, Amal Alamuddin became the most talked about bride of the year.  Amal wore a stunning lace Oscar de la Renta gown for her intimate ceremony. I am in love with the neckline of this dress. The off the shoulder detailing is extremely elegant and flattering. Amal was also pictured looking like a movie star in a white and navy Stella McCartney trouser, top and hat combo. To top off a fabulous weekend of outfits Amal showed off her endless legs in a floral appliqué and laceGiambattista Valli dress. Swoon!

C’est Chic

Amanda Holden, SJP and Allison Williams

Amanda Holden, SJP and Allison Williams

Amanda Holden arrived at Claridges hotel last month is an over the knee black and white dress, paired with thin-strapped black shoes. Amanda accessorized with a chic hair do and black clutch. Sarah Jessica Parker attended the Gareth Pugh presentation in NYC in a vibrant, also over the knee, printed dress. SJP finished the look with pointed silver heels. Also in pointed heels, actress Allison Williams looked like the bell of the ball as she attended the DVF NYC show. Does this girl every get it wrong? I love the checked grey detailing. I think if Dorothy ever made it from Kansas to NYC fashion week, she would be definitely wear this dress.

All Black, Everything

Toni Garen, Allison Williams and Reece Witherspoon

Toni Garen, Allison Williams and Reece Witherspoon

Model Toni Garen wore an interesting layered black dress to a Nars launch event in NYC. I really like the vertical panel detailing on the corset which extends into a sheer skirt with horizontal strips. Allison Williams features again in another great outfit from NYC last month. This time Allison wore a tea length skirt and crop top by Vionnet with a white collar and waist band trim. Reece Withersppon attended the Toronto Film Festival for the screening of her latest flick, Wild. Reece wore a black Saint Laurent dress with a cute flowy skater skirt, off the shoulder detailing and sparkly side panel.

Film Festival Frocks

Cara Delevigne, Jessica Chastain and Kate Beckinsale

Cara Delevigne, Jessica Chastain and Kate Beckinsale

Cara Delevigne walked the not-so-red-red-carepet at the Toronto Film Festival in a full length striped green dress with a gold belt. I love this look on Cara. The multiple shades of green work well with her skin tone and hair and her makeup is classically beautiful. Kate Beckinsale, also at the Toronto Film Festival, wore a strapless nude-pink jumpsuit with subtle wrap detailing at the bust with an odd but workable piece of fabric stemming from the waist. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain was honoured at the Deauville American Film Festival. Jessica wore a heavily embroidered Oscar de la Renta pink over the knee dress with spiky Louboutains.

Red and Silver Combos

Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington Whitley and Gwen Stefani

Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington Whitley and Gwen Stefani

Did someone say Jessica Rabbit? Wow! Emily Ratajkowski attended the Gone Girl world premiere in a simply stunning red SAFiYAA dress. The minimal hair and no jewellery add to the elegance and simplicity of this look. My favourite look from last month by far! Rosie Huntington-Whitley stunned in silver as she attended the Stuart Weirzman event in Paris while Gwen Stefani wore a red power suit  with white top as she was papped between work commitments. The printed Louboutains add some fun to this work wear.

Revlon Colourstay Concealer in 02 Pale

Revlon Colourstay Concealer 02 Pale

All medium to full coverage foundation lovers out there will know Revlon Colorstay foundations are among some of the best on the market. While a good foundation starts the coverage process, concealer is always the second product I reach for when applying my makeup. Being such a fan of the Colorstay foundation I decided to give the Colorstay concealer a try.

The Colorstay concealer comes in a 6.2ml durable, almost glass like, plastic tube. There is a  black screw lid, the same as the foundation and a doe applicator. I purchased the shade 02 Pale, which appears to be the lightest available in Ireland and the UK. While I usually like to use a brightening concealer under my eye I find this works well at covering dark circles as the shade is a good match. I also use this on any spots or redness and it does a good job covering them. Usually I’ll apply the product using the applicator and blend out with either my ring finger or Eco-Tools concealer brush. I found on occasion the concealer can crease under the eye if it isn’t blended out fully.

The texture is very creamy and it’s quite a moisturising, non-drying formula, which I really like for my undereye area. As I’ve mentioned I use either one of two methods to apply this concealer. I find that sometimes it is best applied using my ring fingers. The longevity of the product is definitely shortened if it is applied with a brush. Perhaps it’s just my brush but on days I don’t use a brush I notice it lasts a lot longer. Overall the coverage of this concealer just about hits the medium mark. I don’t think it’s as good as my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, although it isn’t as drying or creamy but it is much, much cheaper.

All in all, I don’t think the Revlon Colorstay Concealer has the same lasting power and coverage as the foundation. That said, when it is applied correctly with care and set with a good matte powder, it looks good on the skin and covers well.

I bought my Revlon Colorstay concealer for €9.99.

Best Dressed October 2014

Now that we are well out of the summer season I expected the October round up to be a dull, boring and wrapped up affair. How mistaken I was! Last month saw some great bright and floral looks across the red carpets and press call events. This month sees the first instalment of film premières that will undoubtedly be considered award-worthy. The only consolation to the dark days of winter is the upcoming red carpet events!

Blue and Silver

Reece Witherspoon, Gisele and Kate Middleton

Reece Witherspoon, Gisele and Kate Middleton

Reece Witherspoon, unwilling to acknowledge winter just yet, was spotted last month wearing a beautiful black, blue and white floral, feminine dress. Reece styled the look by sweeping her hair to the side in vintage Hollywood waves, a thin clutch and monochrome bowed shoes. Very cute, very summery! Gisele never fails to dazzle and her appearance at the Chanel No5 #TheOneThatIWant launch was no exception. Wearing a silver, slinky Chanel mini, Gisele showed off her fabulously tanned legs and was the star attraction at the event launching her career as the new Chanel Girl. Kate Middleton was photographed last month for the first time since her severe morning sickness as she expects Royal Baby No2. Kate wore a beautiful baby blue Jenny Packham dress with a thigh high front slit.I absolutely love Kate’s suede nude shoes, a nice break from the Staurt Weitzman’s that have been doing the rounds recently.

Nudes and Stripes

Hallie Berry, Jenna Coleman and Amal Almuddin

Halle Berry, Jenna Coleman and Amal Almuddin

Actress Halle Berry was photographed at the Golden Heart Awards in New York City. The star, who is working with designer Michael Kors to stop world hunger was wearing a white, tea length dress with dark blue neck and waist trim by the designer to the event. Dr Who’s assistant Jenna Coleman turned heads at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood where she attended a pre-Britannia Awards party. Jenna paired her browny-nude long sleeved sheer top with a subtle sequenced skirt and matching nude shoes, topping off the elegant look with a box clutch. Perfection! Everyone’s favourite newly-wed Amal Alamuddin was back to her day job last month. Pictured in Greece, Amal wore an uber-stylish green striped and white dress wich she matched with a practical handbag and great pair of shoes.

Dressed in Black

Jessica Alba, Catherine Jenkins and Selena Gomez

Jessica Alba, Catherine Jenkins and Selena Gomez

Jessica Alba attended the Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am opening ceremony in China last month. Jessica wore a black Emilio Pucci jumpsuit to the event, with a studded halter neck. However, I’m not sold on the Giuseppe Zanotti shoes… Welsh singing sensation Catherine Jenkins stunned in a sparkling, strapless floor length gown  by Suzanne Neville. The minimal jewels and amazing hair-do make this a winning look for me. Unleashing her inner Olivia Pope, Selena Gomez stepped out in LA during October in a gorgeous form fitting lace ensemble. I love the belt detailing. A very sophisticated and grown-woman look by Miss Gomez.

Casual Chicas

Victoria Beckham, Nicki Reed and Christe Brinkley

Victoria Beckham, Nicki Reed and Christe Brinkley

Running to a from her new London store, Victoria Beckham was papped wearing a pair of skinny ripped jeans, black suede boots and coordinating green top and jacket. Topped off with her signature glasses, Victoria can dress down to odd time! Nicki Reed was also papped last month. Leaving the airport, Nicki was seen wearing brown boots, a long flowy blue and gold dress acessorised with a stylish black hat, leather jacket and handbag. American model and actress Christie Brinkley was pictured at a Hamptons event last month looking dressed down to perfection. I love her chic camel coat and hat and Burberry bag. This is a great winter inspiration look as her printed trousers are bang on trend.

It was all Yellow

Jamie King and a very pregnant Blake Lively glowed together on the redcarpet as they attened an event hosted by Michael Kors. And, yes, you guessed it… both are wearing Michael Kors. Jamie wore a birght yellow dress, a rarity for her, while Blake wore a full length blue and nude sequenced dress. Jessica Chastain was spotted last month. Looking like a Grecian Goddess in this yellow Givenchy dress. I love the halter neckline and jewel detailing. The gold belt ties the look seamlessly together.

Anna Wintour and her daughter, Bee attended the Michael Kors God’s Love We Deliver 2014 Golden Heart Awards. Both ladies opted for floral designs while Mr Kors kept it classic in a black suit and tie. Meanwhile in Hollywood at the Vanity Fair and Burberry BAFTA party, Eddie Redmayne, Lily Collins and Ben Barnes posed for photos together. Burberry model Eddie wore a wine suit tailored suit with white shirt and baby blue tie, a surprising buy stylish combo. Lily looked girl in a white checked flowy skirt and crop top while Ben opted for a grey suit with a casually buttoned light blue shirt.
